Share Some Kindness
Communities thrive with kindness, meaning we all benefit. So let’s take a moment to recognize kindness in Oakville by doing something for someone else – a stranger, a senior, a neighbour, a colleague, a kid. We’re all in this together.
Working with a great volunteer committee made up of local residents and business people, the Oakville Community Foundation (OCF) has earmarked November 9th as Oakville’s 2012 Random Act of Kindness Day. It’s a day to celebrate the small gestures in life in random ways. Like letting someone merge in front of you on the QEW. Or calling someone who’s alone. Or thanking the local crossing guard.
Look for Random Act of Kindness cards distributed throughout town by mid-October, with digital versions on OCF’s website (www.theocf.org). Then, on November 9th, do an act of kindness for someone and pass your card along to that person, encouraging him/her to do the same. Every small gesture pays big dividends.
On November 9th, help Oakville thrive with kindness.

I just did my first RAK. A young lady allowed me in line ahead of her at Starbucks so that I could buy a coffee with a friend. I bought her a coffee. She said that she had just heard that her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was still in a daze about the news. She said that my thoughfulness was a great gesture of support when she really needed it. What’s my next opportunity?! – Rusty
Random Act of Kindness Day in Oakville is a unique community event. You can participate without leaving your house – or even getting out of bed! You don’t have to go anywhere or sign anything – just share some kindness. If you are still in bed call a relative (like Mom) on the phone to say “hello”. Or get up and rake some leaves for an elderly neighbour. Or bake and share some goodies. Or take your kids and their friends to the park – you get double points – from parents and children.
